The lack of confirmation on the continuation or expansion of the air route has left the Odia diaspora anxious, particularly those who frequently travel between the Middle East and Odisha for work, family commitments, and emergencies.

For many Odia workers and professionals based in Dubai and other parts of the UAE, the direct flight has been a crucial link to their home state. It has helped reduce travel time, cut costs, and eliminate the need for multiple layovers. With the future of the service remaining unclear, passengers fear they may once again be forced to rely on indirect routes via major hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, or Hyderabad, leading to longer journeys and higher expenses.

Members of the Odia community have expressed disappointment over the uncertainty, stating that the demand for the route remains strong throughout the year. They point out that thousands of Odias working in construction, hospitality, healthcare, and other sectors regularly travel to and from Odisha. Travel agents have also noted that uncertainty around the route could impact passenger planning, especially during peak travel seasons such as festivals, school holidays, and emergency visits. Many travellers are delaying ticket bookings due to the lack of clarity, which could further affect passenger load data for the sector.

The Dubai–Bhubaneswar air link is seen as not just a travel convenience but a vital connection strengthening ties between Odisha and its overseas population. Stakeholders believe that restoring confidence in the route will benefit passengers, boost international connectivity for Bhubaneswar airport, and support the economic and social needs of Odias living abroad.

Families in Odisha are equally affected, as the direct flight has made it easier for relatives working in the UAE to return home during medical emergencies, weddings, and festivals. The absence of a direct connection often results in missed connections, extended travel hours, and increased stress, particularly for elderly passengers and those travelling with children.

Representatives of migrant worker associations have urged authorities to consider the emotional and economic impact of the uncertainty. They have called for transparent communication from airlines and airport officials so that travellers can plan their journeys without confusion or last-minute disruptions.

With the number of Odias working abroad continuing to rise, community members feel that reliable international air links are essential. They hope that timely intervention by policymakers and aviation stakeholders will restore confidence in the Dubai–Bhubaneswar route and reaffirm the state’s commitment to its global diaspora.
